The Rooms of Cotton Bay Hotel

Cotton Bay Hotel invites you to escape to the peace and seclusion of our quiet tropical island, all while enjoying the comforts of the modern world. Built to international standards and considered the finest hotel in Rodrigues, Cotton Bay Hotel will charm you with its bungalow styled accommodations. All accommodations overlook the sparkling white sandy beach of the Pointe Coton Lagoon.

The Hotel consists of:

·         40 superior hotel rooms

·         6 deluxe hotel rooms

·         2 private suites (located in separate bungalows for extra privacy and convenience)

All hotel accommodation include air-conditioning, ceiling fan, mini bar, telephone, music system, TV (satellites channels), hair-dryer, safe, and private bathroom with shower and toilet. Bathrooms of deluxe rooms and the private suites have a separate bath and shower.

Laundry service and a boutique/gift shop are available for your convenience.

The Cotton Dive Centre

Come enjoy scuba diving among the pristine coral reefs of Rodrigues, an ideal scuba diving destination. Rodrigues’ isolated location and limited commercial development have always restricted fishing activities to a minimum. In the lagoons, the pirogues are generally pole propelled. The coral reef has therefore remained untouched and is an outstanding divers’ paradise.

By order of preference, here are the most favourable diving periods.

Carved over centuries, by marine life and tide influence, coral arches and deep ravines provide superb diving sites. They shelter an impressive fauna likely to reward the boldest divers. Cliffs, cantilevers, collapses and caves are yet to be discovered. As from the level1, shallow diving sites are accessible, thus enabling beginners to have fun and benefit from total security in the lagoon. A wide range of spots is available for experienced and confirmed divers. Diving in Rodrigues will hopefully increase the divers’ passion for such a precious and such a rich submarine world.

October, November, December, and January: Good visibility, smooth sea, transit of large marine mammals: humpback whales, etc. Water temperature is between 28 and 30 degrees.

February: Same climate, but with risk of cyclones.

March, April, and May: April is the end of the cyclone season. The wind will grow stronger through the months, and water temperature will fall by 1 or 2 degrees.

Mid - June to Mid – July: Strong winds 1 day out of 3, thus causing the water to be cloudy and preventing us from diving outside the lagoon. The Diving Centre is closed in July.

August: The wind is weaker and the sea calmer. Water temperature is between 23 and 24º C and rises every day. The Diving Centre is closed in August

EQUIPMENT:
The Centre is equipped with SCUBAPRO and owns 10 complete sets of equipment: flippers, masks, tubas, long 3 mm mono piece, short 3 mm, stabilizing jackets, Mark 2/R190 regulators, short 12 litre steel mono cylinders, and BAUER compressor.

The boat, the Navasogdi (24 by 8 ft.), is equipped with a 120-litre fresh water tank, portable VHF set, graphic sounder, and GPS (Global Positioning System).

The Cotton Dive Centre is closed in July and August.

Kitesurfing
You want to learn how to kite-surf in a very safe environment? Or you want to progress quickly but you have had enough of over-crowded spots? Then Rodrigues island is the perfect place!!
Surrounded by untouched nature, the island offers ideal conditions to practice kite-surfing. Do not hesitate any further and join us in kite-surf paradise!!

The Spot :
World-class kite-spot located in the middle of the Indian ocean, the island benefits from the Alizes blowing constantly around 20/25 knots from May to November.
One of the particularities of the island is to be surrounded by a lagoon twice its size. You will then enjoy kitesurfing in a huge 200 km2 playground of crystal water in a postal card landscape! Water being shallow in almost the whole lagoon will allow you to progress quickly in complete safety.

Downwind :
For level 2 IKO riders, we organize down-winders throughout the lagoon. Between 4h and 7h downwind around the islands, in the waves close to the reef, practicing your tricks in flat water, making a stop on an island for a BBQ… an unforgettable moment!!

Equipment :
For your comfort and safety, our centre only uses the latest equipments from F.one and Gaastra. The school is also a test centre for Gaastra kites and the distributor for Mystic (harnesses and accessories) and Crazyfly (boards). All the gear is checked daily by our team of instructors who are the only IKO (International Kitesurfing Organization) certified on the island.

-          Cotton Bay Hotel now has its own catamaran. 1^st one on the island and they also propose catamaran cruises to Ile Hermitage with unlimited drinks and barbecue on the island. Cruses of 5 to 6 hours depending on the tide.

Pure Delight for the Palate
Scrumptious dining awaits you in our restaurant, which features international as well as Rodriguan cuisine. The half board package includes an American breakfast buffet and a dinner which alternates between a 3 course menu and a buffet. Snack service and ‘à la carte’ lunch are available during the day.

• The colourful Saturday market in the capital of Port Mathurin, where a visitor can find the famous handicrafts of Rodrigues: woven straw hats, baskets, pickled lemon preserves, and jars of Rodriguan honey (which has won awards as far away as England!). 
• The charming local dances and music, including the sega tambour.  Dance lessons are available for visitors wishing to join in.
• The delicious local cuisine, like fresh seafood, beef rougaille, octopus curry, honey glazed pork, and maize pudding

Rodrigues - The Land
Located 560 km Northeast of Mauritius, Rodrigues is a rugged and mountainous country, 18 km long and 8 km wide. Subsistence farming and fishing dominate the island.
