There is no doubt that hotels in Mauritius are amongst the best worldwide, mainly owing to a high level of service and regular upgrading of their infrastructure and re-designing of rooms, suites and public areas. Management see to it that their guests are pampered by dedicated staff all day, thus setting the base to ensure an extremely high level of returning clients year after year.

Rates vary enormously indeed but it is only fair to accept that a small budget hotel cannot be expected to provide the same level of service and excellence of food that a top luxury hotel does on a regular basis. Whilst guests will obviously get what they pay for, we feel that it is our duty to provide them with a fair comparison. There are today over 115 hotels in Mauritius and ratings advertised are these hotels own appreciation of their level of service and standard. As we have sampled all these hotels personally, we have reviewed their ratings and whilst there have not been many changes, we feel that the resulting ratings are fairer and give a better idea of what to expect.

All these hotels provide different food programmes: budget hotels for example are practically the only ones to provide B&B stays and sometimes also Half-Board, and many hotels with 3- and 4-star ratings now provide accommodation on All-Inclusive basis only whilst others offer All-Inclusive as a optional supplement.
Let us explain:
B&B is the standard Bed & Breakfast (sometimes a full American buffet breakfast, at other times only a simple Continental breakfast).
Half-Board (HB) is what is offered at most hotels, namely full American buffet breakfast and Evening Dinner (buffet or Theme evenings).
All-Inclusive (A-I) is definitely the new trend. It is Half-Board, lunch and usually tea/coffee in the afternoon, but the novelty is that all soft and locally-bottled alcoholic drinks are included (wines, beers, spirits, and some cocktails), usually however not including  minibar consumption. Many hotels who used to offer standard Half-Board accommodation have this year opted for the All-Inclusive basis.

The comparative chart that we have prepared for your information shows within the Budget category the hotel name and region, its star rating, the fare basis proposed by the hotel (whether B&B, HB or A-I). Regarding each food basis we have also shown the daily rates for two persons in a double room.
Many hotels also provide specials at certain periods of the year, namely either a lower rate after the first 7 nights stay, or a lower rate for honeymooners. In fairness so as to compare like with like we have also shown these lower daily rates wherever.

Finally, these comparative figures have been set out at 4 different dates of the year, namely 15th October (medium), 23rd December (peak), 15th April (another medium period) and 1st July (low). This gives a clearer view as to comparative rates to clients who are still considering which periods in which to visit Mauritius. We hope that this comparative study is helpful to you.
