Dont miss the opportunity of an unforgettable cruise along the coast of Mauritius aboard this unique sailing vessel.  ISLA MAURITIA was built in 1852 by the famous shipbuilders Sollier of Spain.

Through their dedication and craftsmanship they spent years transforming ninety tons of exceptionally tough and durable pine into a sailing vessel of lasting elegance and strength. She was designed according to the traditional style of the world famous Balearic Island Schooners, which used to transport freight between Europe and Africa and were renown for their sailing expertise.

Her history covered several generations in the safe keeping of one family who painstakingly maintained her to a standard of excellent working order. During this period, her structure and equipment was continually updated to ensure her trading capability until 1959 when she finally sank under mysterious circumstances.

Two years later she was refloated and registered as a private yacht: Her exterior was completely restored to the original old style with the help of drawings and documents which dated back to the time of her construction. During the same period, her interior was also converted into a sailing cruiser with a saloon, cabins for the crew and passengers, galley, bathroom and toilets, an engine room and the latest in modern navigational equipment.

She sailed for years between Europe and the Caribbean where she also achieved new status by featuring in several adventure films.

A team of international yacht designers conducted an extensive study of her hull and discovered long lost design secrets and technical skills which had been lost through the centuries.

During the period of 1988 to 1989 she made her final voyage from Scandinavia to Mauritius and proved that she could still sail the great oceans of this world as graciously as she did over 155 years ago.

ISLA MAURITIA is the last existing sailing vessel in her class.  She is truly a magnificent example of the world’s nautical history!
