Pointe
aux Canonniers - Stretching from
the well-known Choisy beach to Grand Bay is Pointe aux Canonniers,
well-known by regular visitors to Club Med. Mont Choisy and Grand Bay are
only a few
minutes away with their turquoise lagoons and gentle waves lapping the
shore. At the Mont
Choisy end (south) of that 2km stretch of perfect beach, the Club Med
allows non-resident tourists to take advantage of its restaurants, bar and
evening shows for a modest fee. However, at the other end you are
practically in Grand Bay with its numerous restaurants, duty-free shops and its festive
atmosphere (less than a km away). We give you hereunder indications of
where the various villas are located.
Villa La Romance
Overview
A tastefully furnished 3-bedroom thatched-roof villa situated
in a large garden overlooking the beach and turquoise lagoon of Pointe aux
Canonniers, a quiet residential area near Grand Bay, on the north coast of
the island. Grand Bay is within walking distance.
75 minutes by car from the airport but only a few minutes from
supermarkets, restaurants, banks and a medical centre.
ADSL internet connection
Inside
Ground Floor:
A spacious open-plan sitting-room/dining room leads on to a beautifully
furnished open thatched-roof terrace with panoramic views of the lagoon.
Guest cloakroom. Laundry room. Well equipped kitchen with air-con.
First Floor:
All 3 bedrooms have air-conditioning.
The main bedroom has a double bed, an en-suite shower-room/toilet and opens
on to a balcony with spectacular sea views. Bedroom 2 has a double bed and a
balcony with sea views. Bedroom 3 has 2 single beds and a balcony with
garden views. Bedrooms 2 and 3 share a shower-room/toilet.
Equipment – Kitchen & Others
Electric cooker, refrigerator, small electric cooker which produces no
heat (most practical during the summer month), microwave, toaster, electric
kettle, washing machine, dryer. Generator of electricity (in the event of
prolonged power cuts).
House
Keeping
Staff
There are two maids,
Mala and Kavita, who attend to villa and house keeping which includes
preparation of meals and laundry.
Mala comes every morning from 8:30am to 12:30pm.
She prepares the breakfast, does the washing
up from evening before, makes the beds and does the laundry and ironing. She
is also available to do extra cooking for lunch and dinner (Rs 150 per hour)
Kavita works in the afternoon from 15.00pm to 17:00pm Monday to Saturday.
She does the washing up after lunch and does
the heavy cleaning. Kavita lives just behing the villa and she can be
contacted in case of emergency as well.
Should you require any extra hours, please discuss this with the maids.
Payment should be made directly to the staff and would normally be charged
at Rs 150 per hour.
The gardener, Timole also comes 3 times a week and you are likely to see him
trimming hedges, watering plants and general upkeep of the garden and beach.
Eric, the security guard comes every night from 20:15 to 05:15 (sunrise)
Helping the
environment (Towels, bed linen, and air conditioning)
We try and play our
part to help the environment and therefore try and rotate towels every 3
days. Please ask Mala should you need your towels changed more frequently.
Air Conditioning
There is air con in all the rooms for your comfort. You may use it at your
convenience however it would be appreciated if you could close doors and
windows as it would be less wasteful.
Electricity/Gas
Power is costly and limited in Mauritius so
please be considerate and switch off all air cons as you leave the room.
In the unlikely event of a long standing
power failure (such as a cyclone) please call the emergency number (dial
130) to check whether it is a general power cut.
There is a spare bottle of gas in the store
room. In case you run out of gas when no maids are around, please call
Kavita who has a key to the store room. The cooker is provided with an
electric ring in the unlikely event of running out of gas.
BBQ/Bonfires/Fireworks
As you are probably aware all of the houses around the villa have thatched
roofs. Villa La Romance unfortunately experienced a fire on its roof quite
recently as a result of a fire work being let off on New year’s eve. We
therefore request that you do not light any of the above.
Security
There are also 2 safety deposit boxes for your use during your stay, Mala
and Kavita can point these out to you.
Passports and valuables should be kept in safes. The maids are completely
trustworthy but be careful of wandering strangers from the beach. Keep items
such as handbags, cameras, wallets and mobile phones out of sight and away
from the beach if you are not around.
We strongly recommend that you lock all
shutters at night.
Neighbourhood
In Trou aux Biches (2 kms): Water skiing, windsurfing, pedalos,
parasailing, scuba diving, deep-sea fishing as well as golf (9-hole course)
and casino at Trou aux Biches Hotel. In Grand Baie (1 km): catamaran
excursions to the Northern islands, underwater excursions in submarine,
sea-scooters, kite surfing, tax-free shopping at smart boutiques of Sunset
Boulevard and an array of restaurants offering a choice of cuisines. Nature
lovers should not miss a visit to the National Botanical Gardens in
Pamplemousses.
