Pongwe is situated on the east coast of Zanzibar, an hour’s drive away from Stone Town and the airport. It is situated on one of the most beautiful coastlines and is a true paradise retreat set on a secluded bay with palm trees along the beach and fine white sand and crystal blue water. Pongwe Beach is a tranquil location; the ideal place to
relax and enjoy Zanzibar’s distinctive, mellow pace. You can dive into the
crystal clear lagoon of the Indian Ocean, which is protected by a barrier of
coral reefs a kilometre from the shore or stretch out and soak up the sun on
the beach or relax in the shade of the palm trees. It is the ideal retreat
for those looking for that extra special honeymoon, or a holiday with an air
of exclusivity. FACILITIES
ACCOMMODATION The resort’s beautiful gardens surround the sixteen Zanzibarian cottages. You will find various local hand crafted Zanzibarian doors and traditional beds. All cottages have en suite bathrooms, with Moroccan style walk in showers. Each cottage also has its own private terrace where can enjoy the sunrise and a leisurely breakfast. The sea view cottages have traditional lime wash walls, and thatched roofs made from woven palm leaves and loungers on the balcony and the garden view rooms have seating area . Some rooms are larger than others but have the same facilities. All rooms are set in groups of 2’s or 3’s sharing one or two common walls. The size of our resort allows a high standard service, and even during peak-season the atmosphere at the Pongwe Beach Hotel remains relaxed, intimate and exclusive. Room Facilities · All rooms have double beds. If a twin room is required, an additional single bed can be provided. A maximum of 2 additional beds can be provided in the large rooms (4 rooms) whereas only 1 can be provided in the remaining ones. · All rooms have mosquito nets, mosquito nettings on windows and mosquito spray each evening. · Ceiling fans. No AC · Backup generator in case of power cuts. · Showers are brackish-not fresh water. The water is supplied by the well on the property. · Bottled mineral water in the rooms are provided daily. · Beach and bath towels are provided in all rooms.
WINING & DINING Bed & Breakfast or Dinner Bed & Breakfast basis are available. Being booked on HB basis, guests cannot interchange lunch for dinner. Full Board is not offered as most guests do not have a full 3 course lunch and generally this is the period when guests will be out on excursions. 3 meals are served daily. Before indulging into a full breakfast which you can choose from a buffet of fruit and cereal with fruit juice and tea/coffee or have a hot English breakfast, you can enjoy a nice cup of tea/coffee, which is served early morning prior to breakfast and free of charge, while admiring the beautiful sunrise. Lunch menu is charged per dish and guests can choose which course to have. A 3 course set menu is available and is changed daily. The lunch menu consists of a choice of 2 starters, 2 main dishes and a fruit platter for dessert. Dinner is also a 3 course set menu consisting of a starter, a main dish and dessert. Lunch and dinner menus are written up first thing in the morning so that guests can choose if they either want anything changed by speaking to the waiter or manager or eat out! Or you can choose to have your dinner served on the beach but only 4 tables per evening can be accommodated on the beach. The bar is open throughout the day and you have a choice from a fine selection of South African swine, sparkling wines or French champagne. Snacks are available during the day and you have a choice between fresh fruits, toasted sandwiches, crisps, chocolates, biscuits and nuts.
ACTIVITIES If you would like take a trip around the island, or to Stone Town — the historic, bustling, cultural core of Zanzibar — a car can be arranged. Alternately, if you prefer a bit more freedom, you could hire a 4×4 jeep, or a motorbike. Or you may prefer to take to the ocean, and go out for a day cruising on our long boat, and combine it with some big game fishing and snorkelling.
