Accommodation in Madagascar

Les Dunes d'Ifaty

Location:

Les Dunes d’Ifaty is located 27 kilometres north of the city of Tuléar, next to the “Mangily” fishing village and is built over an area of 6 hectares amidst a flora of tropical and other typical indigenous plants from this dry region of the south of Madagascar, directly overlooking the Mozambique Channel and its endless coral reef barrier.

The hotel:

The hotel is built in traditional style with local materials. Dry stones from the region adorn the building walls and the frame is made up of Katrafay round wood and other essences from the southern part of Madagascar. The entire roofing is composed of a double layer of vondry (a traditional Malagasy fibre) with metal sheeting inserted in the middle to ensure waterproofing.

The room and terrace floors, as well as that of the main building, are made up of large massive Anakaraka wood slats. All the windows are similarly made up of massive Anakaraka wood.

The interior walls are smoothly finished with warm and bright colours. The hotel’s local architecture and style carefully pay tribute and respect to ecology and comfort principles.

Two generators of 44 and 110 kVA output respectively are operational around the clock and ensure a constant power supply.

Water is drawn from a 20 meter deep underground well by an immersion pump.

The main building is designed following a wide-open-style structure, the roofing being supported by large pillars, with a seven metre high tree in the centre. The building accommodates the reception desk, the baggage-handling area, the bar with a library corner, the restaurant, a covered terrace and mixed toilets. An outdoor patio serves as an extension to the restaurant.

The reception desks, as well as the bar, are cast in regional dry stone and topped with massive wood.

The bar is designed in modern contemporary style, with rattan sofas, fabrics and rosewood furniture, along with traditional Malagasy carvings and curios. The restaurant is furnished as well in rosewood.

The restaurants and bars:

The main restaurant can accommodate 80 guests. It is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and offers an international as well as local fresh sea-food based cuisine. Our Chef and his team of cooks, trained by a renowned French Chef, will delight your taste buds.

The main bar, which is open daily from 10.00 to 14.30 and from 18.00 to 23.00, invites you to discover its cocktails and to embark on a trip of exotic flavours and delightful sensations of comfort, and happiness of being in this remote cosy corner of the south.

The Filao Bar Plage can accommodate 30 guests and is open from 10.00 to 18.00. Located right on the beach and built in local architectural style with an entirely pebbled floor, the bar offers snacks and a wide range of refreshing drinks all day long.
